“For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” 1 Thessalonians 5:3

What would cause people in every nation to clamour for peace at any price?

Constant conflict, unrelenting terror and bloodshed, rumours of war all cause both reason and especially the human heart to cry out for PEACE.

Jesus Christ had already declared that in the latter days, there would be just that very thing – “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” Matthew 24:6

Jesus went on to say that those days would be filled with peril and trouble on every hand, with famines, disease, earthquakes and many other kinds of trouble.

Today, 2017, this is precisely what we have.  Though we have had this scenario for many decades, it is even more prevalent today.  One of the tragedies of modern society is that we in the West have become desensitized to bloodshed and terror. And this has primarily been done through the means of entertainment through the mass media outlets.

The prophet Zechariah prophesied in the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Lord of all the earth; – And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.  Zechariah 12:3

The Bible records many battles that were fought over the city of Jerusalem.  The first one mentioned in the Bible is found in Joshua 10 where Adonizedek king of Jerusalem gathered the nearby kings of other cities to him in order to defeat Joshua and the Israelites who had come from Egypt having been set free by Pharaoh king of Egypt.  These kings of Canaan and all the people were terrified of this God of Israel who had stopped the waters of the Jordan river from flowing in high tide.  None of the gods of these city kingdoms had ever done such a thing, nor did their gods have such power, nor could they they because what these people worshipped were not ‘god’s but idols through which demons worked to enslave the people in superstition and vain works.

Israel had now crossed over the Jordan river while it was in flood, God having miraculously stopped the waters from flowing far up river (Joshua 3 and 4), just like God had separated the waters of the Red Sea for His people to cross over to safety (Exodus 14).

The name Jerusalem means City of Peace. (Y’ru-shah-lah-yim, is the Hebrew pronunciation)

In Genesis 14 there is a king who is called Melchizedek and who comes to Abraham and blesses him in the name of the Lord God of Heaven and earth.  This king is called king of Shalem. It is possible that he was the first king of Jerusalem – long before Adonizedek who appears as king of Jerusalem later in Joshua 10.

Israel, that tiny nation in the middle of a hot bed of trouble is a burdensome stone to many leaders in the world.

No matter what you think about how the modern state of Israel has come into existence, and financed by international bankers, or if the Jews living in that state are of 100% DNA Jewish blood or not, God has used corrupt men to bring about a relatively safe haven for thousands of Jewish immigrants from many countries of the world.  It is also a relatively safe haven for hundreds of thousands of other nationalities, including a huge number of Arabs. Yes there is corruption in Israel.  But there is corruption in every nations state in the world.  There may even be corruption in your own backyard.

Let it be said that “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness of it, the world and those  who live in it.” Psalm 24:1.

This means that while man has been given right to govern on the earth – only for a set time, which is soon to run out, all the wealth – the stuff we put a value on is actually the property of God – not of a king or queen of any city or nation or kingdom.  And God is well able to move even wicked men to provide for those  He cares for and intends to to do something for in spite of the wretched plans of men for selfish and destructive ends. God cares for all every one of His creatures.  He provides for the wicked and the just. He sends them rain and sunshine, gives them clothes and food and shelter.  He does this for sparrows and He does this for mankind.   He promotes people into positions of power and rulership for His own reasons, even though those same persons may have an evil agenda and may actually carry out their evil agendas.

But let us remember the wisdom of Solomon – “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.  Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth  are vanity.” Ecclesiastes 11:9, 10.

David the king later conquered the city of the Jebus which is also known as the city of Jerusalem. Interesting to note that ‘Jebus’ means to tread down – by force. In contrast, Jerusalem means peace, rest, wholeness, completeness etc.

Jerusalem was the city where God chose to put His name there…

“And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do, That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon. And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house? And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil. 1 Kings 9:1-9

Later, because of Solomon’s rebellion owing to his disregard for the laws which God had put  in place for their own good, because he had wanted women from other nations who did not believe in or follow the God of Israel, they turned his heart away from his devotion to the one true God.  They became his idols.  Idolatry begins in the heart, and coveting what is unlawful in God’s eyes is the road to idolatry, which is from God’s perspective the same as witchcraft.

Samuel the prophet had to deal with king Saul’s disobedience to God’s command –  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.”

Matthew Henry makes comment on this: “It is much easier to bring a bullock or lamb to be burned upon the altar, than to bring every high thought into obedience to God, and to make our will subject to his will. Those are unfit and unworthy to rule over men, who are not willing that God should rule over them.”

Solomon likewise after some wonderful years under God’s blessing and mercy, turned his heart away from serving God and entered into a dissolute life of madness, hedonism, and materialism.  But the wisdom that God gave him was not taken away from him.  And finally after much rebellion, like Manasseh who  centuries later rebelled but was shown mercy to repent, Solomon also turned back to God, and acknowledged his foolishness.  This find evidence of this at the end of his writings – the Book of Ecclesiastes.

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened, And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low; Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it begood, or whether it be evil.”

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it begood, or whether it be evil.”

God spoke to David years earlier concerning his son who would rule after him…

“And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.” 2 Samuel 7 12-17

“But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. ”  – this  is a clear promise from God concerning Solomon, though he should turn from obedience to God and serve false gods’, he would be able to find favour with God once again after he repented.

God is a God of peace.  He spoke peace to our first parents – Adam and Eve, and He has sought to bring peace to all the children of Adam.  But God sets the parameters for that peace and for the kind of peace He has in mind.

Jesus said, My peace I give unto you.  Not as the world gives do I give to you. John 14:27.

Every nation has its capital cities; capital cities in each state or province of every nation.  God has designed for the earth to have a capital city.  That capital city is none but Jerusalem.   Jerusalem is mentioned over 600 times in the Hebrew Bible (Tanaach/Old Testament) and many times in the New Testament. One count is a total of 806 times   (

Jerusalem was in the ancient world central to commerce and politics between 3 land masses. The number of battles that have raged over it is staggering.  Many of those battles if not all have been of a religious nature.

Revelation  16 speaks of a war to be fought at a place known in Hebrew as har megiddo  or – Armageddon.  That war is called the ‘the great day of God Almighty’.  This har megiddo is in the land of Israel.

There is another battle spoken of in Revelation 20.1-11.

Because these passages are prophetic and have not yet been fulfilled, they are an enigma to many and thus much discussion whether these two battles are one and the same, or two different battles on two different locations in Israel.

One glaring detail indicates to me that these are separate battles fought at different times, though both occuring in Israel.

The ‘battle plan’ described in Rev 20 speaks of Satan going about to deceive the nations of the world one more time in the deluded hope that he can once  and for all defeat Almighty God – his Creator by his own schemes with the help of mankind.  Only someone who is completely deceived would dream of such a thing.

The battle plan of chapter 16 speaks of three demonic spirits going out of the mouth of the dragon, and from the mouth of the beast, and from the mouth of the false prophet.  The beast is the  antichrist, the false prophet is his left hand man, who like Aaron was Moses’ mouthpiece for a time. These two persons, are both thrown into the Lake of Fire alive before the events  described in Revelation 20 transpire.

But God will triumph over all the works of the devil and all the rebellious acts of mankind.  And all will admit that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

And Jerusalem, the city of peace will be the world’s capital from which Jesus Christ will reign as Prince o f Peace in peace and justice, and the world will have peace for a thousand years.  Jesus Christ is the second Adam.  Adam lived 70 years shy of 1000 years.  If he had have been obedient to God, he also could have ruled over the whole earth in peace for a thousand years.  But he fell into disobedience and so too did all his children, including you and I.  So Christ Jesus the Second Adam will do what Adam did not do.

Today, refugees are streaming out of north African countries and from various Arab States in the Middle East and spreading across Europe and beyond, hoping for some peace and rest to all their troubles and conflicts.  And some are finding their way into Israel, which is the only democratic country in that region, and in spite of much sin in that land, and many evil things going on there (as in all nations of the earth, none is without fault; let them who are without sin cast the first stone), God is at work and allowing many to find some degree of rest and security for the time being in that ancient land.

There is an increase in fear that is gripping both the powerful and the weak. Nations are positioning their armies in the immediate areas around and in the Middle East.  Politicians are once again rattling sabers and both alleging and refuting fault and blame.

There are today as there have been for a number of centuries a group of powerful and shrewd men who have through many generations plotted to produce these very things.  The members of these groups change, but the secret (or not so now secret) agendas remains the same…TO BRING THE POPULATION OF THE EARTH TO ITS KNEES SO THAT THEY WILL CRY OUT and DEMAND PEACE AT ANY PRICE.

The theory of evolution as a means to explain the origins of the universe has been promoted by these same influential, ruthless and powerful people.  Such ideas as ‘SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST’  allows for the concept of war to remove the weak and vulnerable and naive from society.

War in modern history has been contrived, manipulated, orchestrated, to make the rich richer and the poor poorer, the strong stronger and the weak weaker.  It has played on the sentimentalities of the naive and innocent in order to enlist the services and potentials of these otherwise good men.  Modern warfare  is  a means to break down families – which is the backbone of any human society.  War is a means to destroy moral integrity, by brutalizing human dignity and genuine care for fellow men.

But warfare is fought on many fronts.  On the battlefield, and in the schools, in parliaments and senates and in royal palaces.

But the biggest and longest battlefront is fought for the most part in the home.  In the home, we are bombarded with ideas that fuel – discontent, lust, idolatry, blasphemy, greed, anger and hatred, bloodshed and brutality, mockery, deception, and perverted morality in many forms.  These ideas come to us through the mass media and modern technology.  A long time ago, they came in the printed page, plays and radio, and movies.  Then the big onslaught came through the Television – the private movie screen, and it has not stopped.

The mass media in its many forms is owned by a handful of super rich men who are dead set on taking control of your mind and the mind of your family.  These forms of news and entertainment is pure psychological warfare and it is happening right before your eyes in your own home and in the bedroom.

You are being coerced to obey the wishes of the rich and powerful of the world, by seduction. You are being sold for a few measly trinkets and a few sensual pleasures.

Esau was the brother of Jacob.  Both these men were sons of Isaac.  Esau was a hunter and Jacob was a shepherd.  Esau came home one day famished from his hunting game.  He could smell food and wanted it no matter what.  He got his stomach full of lentils and the price for which he paid a very high price.  At the time of the transaction with his brother Jacob, the cost was meaningless.  He despised the true value of what was truly his for the remainder of his life and gave in to his fleshly appetite.

The price he paid was his legitimate birthright.

While the birthright was his, he held the power of it for the rest of his days.  But once he sold it to his brother Jacob for Jacob’s fine cooking, it was no longer his.  It became the property of his opponent.

Esau had a great need.  That need was to fill his belly with good food – organic food.  There was nothing wrong with that need.  But he became impatient and refused to control his appetite.  He was consumed with desire for his belly to be satisfied.

What a price? What an exchange?

To throw away one’s future all because we will not control our appetite for things that are passing away is foolishness.

God commands us all to consider out latter end.  Deuteronomy 32:28,29

“For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.  O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!”

Esau did not consider his tomorrows.  He did not regard the value of his father Isaac’s inheritance for him. He became engrossed in one thing; temporal satisfaction.  He tried and cried to his father to help him and give him some further blessing, but it was too little too late.

Jacob at that time in his life was a schemer, a deceiver; that is what his name means – literally, ‘holder of the heel’ or more simply, ‘a leg puller’.  When Esau was being born, his brother Jacob’s hand was on Esau’s heel, so they named him – Jacob.

Today, in this twenty first century world, the picture is no different. There are those who are willing to sell all that is precious to them for temporal satisfaction.  Many of us have given no thought at all to our true birthright.

And there are those who are leg pullers, those who will try and get you to sell the  most important things for a perceived temporal gain – short term satisfaction.

Jesus said that you can gain all the temporal things your vanity desires, yet lose  your own soul.  The world’s elite are selling their souls to the devil for temporal satisfaction.  Don’t be deceived by them.  Don’t follow in their footsteps.

The most important thing you can obtain is a spiritual birthright which is offered to you through Jesus Christ the only Redeemer and Heavenly Legal Advocate you will ever have.  Jesus offers you the same quality of life that He has.  That Life is eternal Life.  Not eternal misery, and pain and trouble BUT eternal honour and blessing and provision, and all that is virtuous, pure, good and perfect.

Jesus Christ came to take the full weight of God’s wrath against you and me because of our dismissiveness of all that is good and right in the sight of the Most Holy Creator God – our Father in Heaven.  We have despised God’s mercy and goodness and have filled our bellies with temporal pleasure. We have despised God’s only sacrifice for sin – Jesus  Christ, and have tried to get God’s approval our own way.

Some of us have invented our own religious methods and some of us have followed some other religious idea.  But there is not other way to the Father in Heaven but through Jesus Christ His only Son.

God will some day soon, reveal to all humanity His Son Jesus Christ as Judge of all of us.  We will all stand before Jesus Christ our Judge.  God has given us ample proof of this by raising Jesus from the dead.  Why would you think that God cannot raise the dead?  Your breath is in His hands.  He has given breath and life to all of us. He provides food and clothes and shelter.  For millions in the world, others refuse to allow them to have food, clothes and shelter.  God will judge them in due course.

God is very mindful of the poor and needy, those whom the very rich and powerful seek to steal from, kill and destroy.  Those who despise the poor despise God.  And God is no Respecter of persons. He is not moved by the wealthy or the famous or the powerful, for He Himself owns all things seeing He created all things, and has no need of anything.

Take hold of your birthright and surrender your life to Jesus Christ who is Lord over all.  Take hold of His life and give Him yours.  Lay your burden of sin and guilt and shame and all the condemnation attached to it, down at the feet of Jesus.  Confess your sins.  Be baptized in water in the name of the Lord Jesus and call upon His name who alone is able to save your soul from the coming wrath.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Lay hold of eternal life in Jesus Christ.  Seek Him today while you still have breath.  He will be your faithful Shepherd.  He will show you what you must do.  Obey Him and live.  Do not sell you birthright for a few passing trinkets and pleasures.
Ask God the Father to teach you to pray, and get hold of a Bible and listen to Jesus Christ preach to you from its pages.

That is the way of peace.  For Jesus is our Peace.

This world will soon be in extreme turmoil and woe, because it is in rebellion against the Living and True God.  Soon the wrath of God will be poured out on all the earth.  And those elite powerful people will become like the stubble after harvest which the wind will wipe away.  They will cry out for mercy who gave no mercy.  They will bring their ‘peace’ into play only to find that it is empty words…wind and vanity.  They will cry out for the rocks and  mountains in which they will hide to fall upon them and hide them from the face  of the Wrath of the Lamb of God – Jesus Christ.  Those who killed millions through their schemes will find their just reward from a Just and Righteous God. Those who stole from the poor, will find they have nothing and will be naked and open to Him who sees all things.  Those who sought to destroy the innocent and naive will themselves be destroyed in Hell and finally in the Lake of Fire which has no end and will never be put out.

Peace and safety!?

When the world says “Peace and Safety” then know that the end is near.  Make sure you have your spiritual birthright in place in Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour King. He alone will give you peace.
