Are they delinquent in their behaviour or are you as a parent delinquent in your neglect of them?

Delinquency in a formal sense means to fail in one’s duty.  to be negligent, neglectful, remiss, carless of one’s duty, irresponsible, lax, slack, disregardful, inadvertent, oscitant (ed. lazy, sluggish) – “delinquent parents need to face tougher penalties”  (says one entry on the web search.)  Note the last phrase.

I  am a father, and a grandfather.  I can speak with some degree of experience.  The issue of delinquent children is caused by delinquent fathers.  Yes fathers, we are to blame.  It is about time that fathers humbled themselves and confessed their guiltiness before God, their wives, and sometimes even to their children.

When was the last time you as a father, said sorry to your wife, or to your child?  (About the last time the moon turned to cheese?)

The introduction of delinquency into the world started not with Eve but with Adam.

God did not judge the man or his wife UNTIL Adam had sinned.  His sin was more grievous than Eve’s was.  Eve was deceived by smooth words and cunning suggestions; she was overcome by the devil’s use of the serpent’s own guile.  Adam’s sin was one of deliberate conscious complicity.  Adam knew full well what fruit Eve was offering to him.  He was not deceived as Paul the apostle of Christ tells us thousands of years later – And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. (1 Timothy 2:14)

But don’t be too quick to blame the woman (or women) – men.  As you read Genesis chapter 3 you will discover, if you are seeking the truth, that God firstly addresses the man. Why?  Why didn’t God show up and judge the woman immediately after her sin?  Why didn’t He cause her to die and make another woman for Adam?

God had finished His creative work.

Genesis 1:31 and 2:1, and 2, shows us that God had finished His initial work of creation – that is, creating material things out of things not seen (Hebrews 11:3).  His ongoing work is one of maintenance, sustaining, refreshing and healing it according to His regulations and wisdom and power.  He had chosen to finish His first work and was not going to overturn that.  He would work with all that He had set in motion.

The man was head and therefore was given more accountability.

The man was made first and so became head and was given responsibility to govern justly in his house, to protect his wife, to show her the good way, to serve her in his position of husband with all humility but also with truth, and pure love, and to raise the children in the knowledge and fear of the Lord who made them.  Though he had no children as yet, this he did not do.  He did “nothing”.  And by doing nothing he was delinquent.          Adam did not

  • in humility rebuke his wife,
  • plead to God for her.
  • grieve over her breaking of God’s law

Instead he deliberately joined her in her sin.  In this he was delinquent.

Paul tells us that sin entered into the world, the earth’s domain, through the man not the woman. – Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:  (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him (Jesus) that was to come.  Romans 5:12-14
Eve did not become aware of her nakedness until the moment that Adam chewed and swallowed the fruit.  While he was chewing he had the capacity to spit out what was in his mouth.  But he did not.

It was obviously not a rotten tasting fruit, just as it was not an awful looking tree or an awful looking fruit.   As we know many exquisite fruits have beautiful aromas.  Eve saw that the fruit was “pleasant” to the eyes – delightful, satifying to the eyes, charming, desirable.  The longer she looked upon it the more her emotions became excited towards it, as well as her senses of smell, sight, etc.  This is how temptation works on us if we keep looking at the temptation.  That is the nature of Sin and its father – Temptation.

So Adam became the first delinquent parent.  Eve, having been put into his care, should have been cared for more attentively in the only matter that God had warned them to keep away from.  They could enjoy everything and any thing else.  This was the only commandment that they had to keep.  One commandment, and they broke it.

Delinquent parents produce delinquent children.  Most of the time delinquency happens because of carelessness, or forgetfulness.  We may be very careful about keeping our bodies fit and healthy and watching everything that we eat and dreink and not putting any toxic material in our mouths or on our skin, and that of our families.

We may be living very religious lives, or even may be truly serving the Lord Jesus as best we know how, in the church or in some other way.  But even so, we may be failing in instructing our children in the ways of the Lord.  And sometimes, this is so because the parent is compromised in some matter of ethics, or morality,  or has some little idol in their heart which they do not want to get rid of.

We may fail in keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ who IS the Second and Last Adam.  We may fail in spending time in prayer before our Creator and Father.  Every good father wants his children to spend time in his company and give him full attention on a regular basis.  God who made the heavens and the earth and everything in them, is our Father.  If we do not spend regular time with Him, then we will NOT have a very good relationship with Him.

The problem is not just that we may fail to spend time with God – ‘five’ minutes with God, supposing that is all there is to it. Does a husband think that spending five minutes with his wife in a day will be enough to keep her devoted to her husband? Too busy!? To busy to set aside time with one’s life long helpmeet?  Tooo preoccupied with the mobile phone, or the internet, or some other distraction?  And let us men not forget that it is God who has allowed a man to take a wife for himself.  So how much more important is it to spend time with our Maker, our Father, our God?

We have already spoken about Lucifer.  Jesus called him the father of lies, murders and  thefts.  His sole purpose now is to steal from you, to destroy you and kill you in whatever way he can – is allowed to.  He goes about like a roaring lion, or like an angel of light, or a chameleon which changes colour to fit into its surrounds, or like the Mimic octopus of Lembeh Indonesia…

watch –

Scientists believe that the cuttlefish has intelligence. It is a master of disguises, more so than the chameleon.  But intelligence indicates mind – thought, reasoning, which cannot happen by chance.  It has to be given intact at DNA level.  It has to be passed from one generation to the next among all creatures.

The study of the human DNA strand is becoming one of the most coveted fields of science today, and the boundaries keep spreading out simply because man is unbridled in his delinquency concerning God’s Laws .  Infact, man has for many decades in the new thrust of “Science’ – so called, been crossing those boundaries flagrantly which will result in the Creator once more bringing swift judgment on the earth and which will be totally outside of man’s ability to do anything about it, or prevent it – unless we repent from our wickedness.  We must Repent and flee from God’s coming wrath.  Run for you life to Jesus Christ.

All of God’s creatures have intelligence to some degree or another.

Lucifer, a created spirit being, was made innocent and without fault, incredibly beautiful and powerful among all of God’s holy angelic beings.  Because lucifer was lifted up in his pride becaue of his God – given beauty and power, he fell into ruin and was cast out of the presence of God with a third of all the angels who were led astray by his delinquent behaviour against his Creator and Gracious Benefactor.

Now he is called the Devil, Satan, the Dragon, the Deceiver, the Serpent, and still has incredible intelligence and powers.  But these abilities have been perverted – twisted, corrupted and are far beyond anything man can do collectively against him…unless mankind turns back to God through Jesus Christ.

Man is deceived just as Eve was deceived in the Garden of Eden. Man is seeking and pushing his world wide agenda to become like ‘god’ – or god-like without changing his foolish and soul damning ways.  He wants to be immortal yet still retain his willing ignorance of and defiance against God.  This is the deception he has fallen into.

God will judge all mankind once again. He will destroy earth one more time, and both the physical heavens and the physical earth will be cleansed by fire and all the very elements (rudimentary particles) will melt (dissolve) with fervent heat.  And the earth and all its works will be utterly burnt up. (see 2 Peter 3:10-12).

Are you a delinquent father still, careless about your children’s or families, or town’s or nation’s eternal position before God?

Are you seeking God diligently with all your heart?  Are you crying out to Him for mercy for yourself and others around you?  For your children? Are you standing in the gap and allowing God to work in you and through you so that His order, His just rule will become evident in those you love, and  firstly in you?

Are you listening to the arguments of the devil, or are you submitting to the will and purpose of Jesus Christ?  Are you shapeshifting like the cuttlefish, even like satan himself, that master of deception?

It is time to come home to Jesus Christ.  Its is time to stop being a delinquent – child, or parent.  It is time to wake up.  Soon it will be too late.  Do you love your bed of complacency, of compromise, of flirting with the enemy and his changing standards.  Corrupt standards always change  shape and colour.  But one day all the changing will cease…time will have run out.

Just like with a cuttle fish, which when death strikes, it can no longer shapeshift or change its colour.  Neither will we be able to fool any one, including ourselves, anymore.
Whether in Hell, or in Heaven, we will know, as we are now known…and that is final.

Does the devil know you to be his?

Does Jesus Christ know you to be His?

God did not start to judge the man or his wife UNTIL Adam had sinned.  His sin was more grievous than Eve’s was.  Eve was deceived by smooth words and cunning suggestions – lies couched in flattery.  Her eyes were blinded.  God holds the man accountable more than the woman in a family, because the man was given the responsibility to govern his house well, and to honour each member of his family.

Adam’s sin was one of deliberate conscious complicity.  Adam knew full well what fruit Eve was offering to him.  His eyes were not blinded by deception.  He was not deceived as Paul the apostle of Christ tells us thousands of years later – And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. (1 Timothy 2:14)  Adam knew full well what he was doing.

Do we?

Men, don’t be too quick to blame the woman.  As you read Genesis chapter 3 you will discover, if you are seeking the truth, that God firstly addresses the man.  The man was deliberately created first by God his Creator, and that man Adam was given responsibility to govern justly in his house, to protect his wife, to show her by example a better way, to serve her in his position of husband with all humility but also with truth.

This he did not do.  Do you?

Adam did not in humility rebuke his wife, and plead to God for her.  He was not grieved over her breaking of God’s law.  He did not have godly sorrow which produces repentance. Instead he deliberately joined her in her sin.  In this he was delinquent.

Even if a man may do all he can to  try and bring up his children in the fear of the Lord God Almighty.  and even though he had done so perfectly, yet if his children became delinquent in some way or other, then at the very least, that father has the sobering duty of bringing the sins of his child to God and to seek God’s wisdom, patience, understanding, grace and mercy for both child and himself.  If he does not do this he also become delinquent in the spiritual sense.

The Bible has much to say about raising children, both in the old testament (the Hebrew Bible) and the new testament, the second part of the Holy Bible, and true Christians endear themselves to both testaments.  The instruction concerning this overwhelming yet most necessary task is given in the Bible in the form of what not to do and what to  do, in instruction and in word-picture form.

The remedy for parental or childhood delinquency is the gospel of Lord Jesus Christ which is the power of God working through heartfelt prayer and genuine repentance and submission to the will of God.  This is so for both fathers and mothers, and their children.

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ includes instructions for living our lives before God in righteousness and true holiness (purity).

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”  Proverbs 13:34.
This is the wisdom of God.  It applies to families as well; (families  as God intended – one man and one woman, whether they have children or not, not two men, or two women, or any other devious combination).

Unbridled delinquency will result in unquenchable sorrow both now and after this mortal life is ended.  Unless we repent.

Every thing we do has rewards, even delinquent actions.

“Rejoice, O young man, in your youth: and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: but you must know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.  Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.  Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth….Fear God and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  For God will bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.” – Solomon (Ecclesaistes 11:9,  10, 12:13, 14)

And this is so for parents too – not just for youths.

Also know this that Jesus Christ paid the full price for your redemption from the power of Satan and the power of his kingdom, and the power and curse of sin, its guilt and punishment.  Jesus died on that old Roman cross and His blood was shed – poured out in order to remove our sins and its power and its reward from our record.  If we will believe this simple truth, and do what He says, then we will come into that forgiveness and freedom Jesus made possible for us.

Peter, on the day of Pentecost, preached an amazing sermon.  He spoke of the prophecies that were uttered centuries earlier by God’s holy messengers, of coming trouble, of Jesus Christ, His death, His burial and His resurrection, and of the promise of the Holy Spirit which the Father spoke of.

The crowd who were listening to Peter, were cut to the heart being convicted of sin by the Holy Spirit and they cried out in alarm – What must we do?

Peter replied “Repent!  and be baptized (in water) in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you chall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call….Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added to them about three thousand souls…”

You  can read the account in Acts chapter 2:1-47.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you in turning each one of you away from your sins Acts 3:26. Both you and your children.
