DO YOU BLESS OR CURSE WITH YOUR TONGUE
“And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity. So the tongue is set among our members, spotting all the body, and inflaming the course of nature, and being inflamed by Hell.
For every species of beasts, both indeed of birds, of creeping things, and of sea animals, is tamed, and has been tamed by the human species;
but no one of men is able to tame the tongue; it is an unrestrainable evil, full of death-dealing poison.
By this we bless God and the Father; and by this we curse men having come into being according to the image of God. (Gen. 1:26)
Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, it is not fitting for these things to be so.” James 3:6-10. LITV
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew 5:44
Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. Luke 6:28
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Romans 12:14
The way of God is to bless. All the curse of humankind was put on Jesus Christ who became a curse for us. For we all were rebels against God’s first covenant. We have all lied, we have all cursed, we have all hated some one, we have all lusted after something or someone that was not rightfully ours. We have all blasphemed God. We have all committed idolatry and put things or people, including ourselves before God. We have all stolen something that did not belongs to us personally and lawfully.
We have either done these things in our heart – in our mind or we have acted them out in the visible world. We all have sinned against the Holy and righteous God in whom there is no darknes or variation. We may have only done one or two things wrong in our lives…one lie, one lustful thought, one moment of hatred against our neighbour, one covetous thought, one moment when we valued something or someone as being more important than our Creator God.
All these things, and jealousy, envy, bitterness, rage, backbiting, and slander, etc, etc, have made us guilty before God. And so does cursing our fellow man.
Many people think they are well justified in cursing another person because it is in the Bible, in the Old Testament. But the Old Testament practice is now been superceded because of what Jesus Christ did when He died on the cross in your place and in mine with all our guiltiness and shame and punishment which we alone deserved.
If we want to live in the old testament under all its laws and all it practices – IN ORDER TO PLEASE GOD, then we have no hope for Heaven. There is no way that you can please God now if you refuse that which Jesus Christ alone did for us.
The blood of bulls and goats and lambs which was required under the old covenant given through Moses could ONLY COVER SIN – not remove sin from our conscience. People who lived in that time would well have been accepted under that arrangement if they followed the law concerning those sacrifices for sin and thus making peace with God. They had nothing better. And that Law a was a holy Law because it shone a light on what sin was in the sight of God.
But Jesus Christ has established a new and better covenant through His death. We thrugh Him have a much better hope, and a more sure word of prophecy.
God made the man in His own image and likeness – Genesis 1:26; James 3:9.
IT was always God’s intention to come to live among men and bring them back to Himself by laying down His own life for each of us. And that life was a human life no less human than ours. The difference was that Jesus – the Son of God, lived a pure life, and pleased God His Father and ours, at every moment by keeping the whole of the law of Moses, and did not sin to the least degree, neither openly or secretly.
Someone religious person may say according to their teaching – that God has no son.
But God is able to do whatever He desires, and His desire is not according to the desire of men. His ways are perfect, and holy, just and good. No man can say He can’t do something…God is not subject to us. We are subject to Him. It pleased God to make for Himself a body of flesh so that he could come and live among men. And He made that body in the body of a young virgin without human sperm. Just like God did not need some substance to create the heaven and the earth in the first place, neither did He nor does He need to a thing to bring something esle into existence.
God did not need human sperm to make for Himself a body of flesh. That Holy thing which was conceived in the womb of Miriam, the young virgin espoused to Joseph the carpenter, was to be known as the Son of God.
To deny this is to deny truth, and thus to bring upon such a person another curse. For the Law says that God would raise up a prophet like unto Moses from among his own brethren and all people will have to hear Him.
Jehovah your God shall raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, one like me; you shall listen to him,
according to all that you desired of Jehovah your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of Jehovah my God, nor let me see this great fire any more, lest I die.
And Jehovah said to me, They have spoken well, what they have said.
I shall raise up a prophet to them from among their brothers, one like you; and I will put My Words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.
And it shall be, whoever will not listen to My Words which he shall speak in My name, I will require it at his hand. Deuteronomy 18:15-19.
Some religions teach that this is their own prophet. But the Scripture clearly says that He whom God was speaking about was to be a Hebrew – from among their brothers, one like you – means a Hebrew – a Jew. Muhammed was not a Jew, from the house of Jacob. Only Jesus Christ fulfilled this prophecy and the many other prophecies concerning that coming Messiah of God.
Jesus became a curse for us
…“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” Galatians 3:13
There was a curse in the law that said if any one does not keep all of the law they are cursed. No one could keep this law perfectly, but God in His mercy provided a covering for sin by requiring the blood of clean animals to be shed for all who would be accepted in His sight.
So, by Jesus taking our sin, our punishment, our curse, we have the opportunity to be set free from the curse of the Law, IF WE WILL BELIEVE AND OBEY THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.
Many religions – religious leaders allow for any one of their followers to curse someone else. They are ignorant of who Jesus Christ is and what they have done. They have their own way to God – so they think.
Many secret societies allow for cursing of fellow men. But they too are ignorant of who Jesus Christ is and what He has done.
But Jesus Christ Himself does not allow for anyone to curse another person, not even to curse at all.
Before the full measure of the grace and truth of God in Christ Jesus appeared to all mankind, people supposed they had a right to curse another person in certain circumstances. The Law came through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
“For the Law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17
If you wish to live UNDER the curse that was pronounced in the old Law that came through Moses, then you yourself will bear its curse.
But if you will place yourself under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and accept His sacrifice for your sinful ways and all that comes with that old way of life, then you will be able to enter into the blessing that Jesus Christ pronounced for all those who would believe and obey Him.
Do not curse your fellow man. For with the same measure that you curse, you yourself will be cursed. It is not your right to curse another person who is made in the image of God like you have been. To do so is to speak against God.
Some white people curse black people. Some black people curse white people. Some Muslims curse Jews and some Jews curse Muslims. Some Hindus curse Christians, and some Christians curse others (and THAT is a very serious mistake for anyone who calls themself a Christian).
Parents curse their children and children curse their parents. Husbands curse their wives and wives curse their husbands.
And billions of people have and do curse Jesus Christ, and thus they curse God His Father and theirs. How foolish we are.
By sinful practices we curse ignorantly our children or families – and generations to come.
Brothers, these things must not happen. We must not do so.
But if any one has so sinned, they must come to Jesus Christ and confess this before Him, seeking pardon and cleansing. The way of cursing is not the way of holiness and peace, without which we shall never see God.
God is willing to forgive, ready to cleanse away our sin, ready to help us overcome such temptations that may arise still. If only we will trust in Him and call upon His name. If only we will confess and forsake our sins, and flee them as if our house was on fire that could not be put out.
James says that “the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity. So the tongue is set among our members, spotting all the body, and inflaming the course of nature, and being inflamed by Hell”. No man can tame the tongue by himself. And this is because the tongue speaks of what is hidden in the heart. If it is in the heart… it is going to come out.
Jesus tells us that out of the heart proceed all kinds of evil.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matthew 5:19
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Mark 7:21
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luke 6:45
If your heart is filled with evil, then you will speak evil things. Oh yes, they may sound nice and pleasant to another person who does not know the secret of your heart…BUT GOD DOES.
But if you come to Jesus Christ, He will give you a new heart which is pure in His sight and He will write on that heart His will, and then you will begin to speak truth and blessing just as your Father in Heaven wants you to.
Do you want the blessing of God on your life, now, and through eternity when this short temporal life is over? Then run to Jesus Christ and give over to Him.
Let Him be your Lord, your Saviour, your God, your King, your Hope and Peace, your life and Light, your Joy and your Refuge.
Give Him your burden of sin…you were never meant to carry it anyway. Sin is too great a burden for any man, and once you get a clear picture of it you will want to get rid of it. Only Jesus can wash it away my friend. But He will if you give it to Him.
But…if you love your sin too much He will not take it from you.
If you will follow Jesus Christ, you must be prepared to die to your own will and ways and serve Him. You must be prepared to carry the name of the Lord Jesus and all the hatred that rebellious man has for that name. You must be prepared to lay your life down for Him, maybe not with your own blood but with your own desires, and interests.
Jesus speaks of this in His good news that He preached. But He does not want us to think that we have to do all that on our own. We cannot. We can only follow Jesus Christ if we receive of His grace, and His truth, His Word, and His Holy Spirit.
And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, each of you on the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all those afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts 2:38, 39.
“And finally, be all of one mind, sympathetic, loving the brothers, and tenderhearted, friendly, not giving back evil for evil, or reviling against reviling; but on the contrary, give blessing; knowing that you were called to this in order that you might inherit blessing.
For the one desiring to love life, and to see good days, let him restrain his tongue from evil, even his lips not to speak guile. Let him turn aside from evil, and let him do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it; because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is gainst any doing evil things”.1 Peter 3:8-12.. … “to cut off their memory from earth.” Psalm 34:16
Bless and curse not. Receive God’s blessings today through Jesus Christ the Son of the Blessed God.
